As part of my birthday celebration, we stayed a night at the Redwood Lodge in Whitney, Texas. It's sits on the banks of Lake Whitney. Sadly we got there pretty late, so we just took a walk, then went to bed. We were please to find out that we had arrived for the town's observation of Pioneer Day. There was a carnival in downtown Whitney with rides, face painting, etc. They had cowboys roaming around, and we were able to catch a shooting duel in the town square. Paul was finally brave enough to get his face painted, and wanted Batman - but the face painter said it was too hard to do on small kids. Try as we might, we did not win a free night at Redwood Lodge while visiting their booth. It was so fun, and next time we'd like to stay longer. The lake itself is quite low because of the drought and time of year, but we explored the rocks anyway. (Paul channeled his inner Dallin, and threw rocks in the lake for about 1/2 hr.) I took my new camera and experimented with the settings - luckily I edited the number of pictures quite a bit!
The best part of the weekend for Paul was that we found a bike for him at one of the booths - that was what appeared to be a yard sale. It is a two-wheeler with training wheels, and he LOVES it! He rides it around the house, and it's been great for me to get back on my bike and ride together.
